Hello all, I am new to the forum. First off, I am a fairly new transplant to Idaho (3 years ago), coming from Minnesota. I've been hunting all my life, but this is definitely a different ball game! I was lucky enough to draw the early season muley archery tag in unit 40. I've only been able to do virtual scouting via Google earth, and won't be able to get down there as much as I'd like before the season opens, due to prior commitments. I've got a few spots picked out so far that look good, but I'm wondering if anyone has any knowledge of the area that they would be willing to share.

Thanks in advance for any help

Congratulations on drawing the best mule deer tag in the state! I hunted this unit a few years ago for pronghorn and saw several nice deer. I did most of my hunting in the southern part of the unit in the Mud Flat area, but also spent some time in the eastern part of the unit near the snake river boundary. Both of these areas were more flatland than mountain as I was hunting pronghorn, but both held deer as well. I have also heard that there are some nice bucks in the Silver City area, but I have not been over there in years so I could not say for sure. Make sure you get a good, up-to-date map of this area as it is littered with private property. Good luck! Hope to see some pics of a unit 40 giant on here soon!

Congrats on a great tag!!! My nephew drew last year but we didn't give the tag justice. No buck down. Saw lots of nice bucks! I live right in the unit so makes it handy to go out but still didn't have time to go out as much as we would have liked. Lots of private land. Get good maps. We only hunted the Mud flat, Juniper station, Antelope ridge, Bachmen grade area's. Good luck!!
