Anyone have any input on a decent OTC bull unit in Idaho. I put in for a draw hunt but only get drawn every 4 or 5 years. I'm tired of paying for the out of state license and not getting to hunt elk. Thanks

elk are all in Nevada now, again.... where are you from ?
Yes we do have some monster bulls here just not many. If a non res can draw a tag almost any unit can produce a monster.
It took me 14 years as a resident to draw a bull tag.

yeah I've been looking into Nevada, got some help from some forum members on how the Nevada thing works. but I can just buy an Idaho non res tag as an extra tag for cheaper. one thing nice about Idaho hunting is all of the otc tags, bring a lot of people in but so far so good.

fireman, this is a good informative forum. you will find lots of valuable info. takes a while to get people to open up though, give us some insight on yourself in new member intro thread, add your own knowledge to others questions and soon youll find your self with more answers than you know what to do with. shoot me a pm ill help ya where I can. keep in mind we get a lot of newbies on here that get what they want and we never hear from them again, so we get skeptical on who we feed info to. Idaho offers a lot of otc units.

I always wanted to do the Archery Beaverhead A Tag. It looks like pretty good country.

I really appreciate the input guys. I've hunted the diamond creek zone a few times and have had success but its a hard draw. Last year I headed up to the panhandle and hunted zone 6. Lots of timber and way too many hunters. I found some elk but had my hunt spoiled twice by guys on quads. I was considering the Palouse area if I don't draw diamond creek or maybe the Salmon area. I haven't been to either but was hoping the pressure might be less.

Ivory tip I really appreciate the help and will be respectful of the forum and the users here. I'm not trying to steal any honey holes, just hoping for some general input. Don't hold it against me but I'm from.....wait for it.......California. I'm from Northern Ca and grew up in the foothills so I'm a country boy at heart. I've hunted elk 4 times over the last 10 years. Taken two decent public land DIY bulls. I'm in good shape and don't mind hiking in and working for it. Just frustrating when you hike for hours into a "secluded" area to have guys buzz past you on a quad.

As Tim pointed out, the Idaho hunt planner website is great resource and a wealth of helpful information. Check for a PM from me.

I have always hunted the Mosquito Flats (Challis Area) with bow in the past as well as the East Fork, White Cloud Peaks area. It has been 5 years though since I was out there last. Busy with the kids sports but it is time again. Boy is old enough so I am looking for an elk hunt for his first bow hunt for elk as well. But, we always had good luck in these areas. Last hunt was in the White Cloud Peaks, seen some good bulls there but there was pressure....you just need to be willing to get away from everyone else. Elk were high that year for us, but they were there.

I have heard the wolves are in this area now but I am not a hundred percent sure on that....I loved hunting these areas and would love to get back there. Mosquito Flats, and north east had a fire couple years ago, but always had elk here.

Anyone else know anything about these areas? What has happened to them in the last few years, are the wolves that bad there or not? White Cloud, last time there too, had a griz in the area and my buddy was bluff charged...so there are bear there as well. Black and grizz.
