Well getting to be that time again to be thinking about putting in for moose. cant decide what unit to put in though. I am stuck between unit 5 and 1-1. If i draw 5 i know i can get in on good bull pretty easy i see dozens every year their, and Unit 1 would be way more of a fun back-country hunt. what do you guys think?

I hunted Unit 1-1 in 2008 at that time they had only two week seasons. I put in for the 1 to the 14 of September, this fit into my hunting scedule the best. I scouted the unit during the summer seen some moose. Most of the unit you can see about ten feet in during sept. But if you hunted during October after the leaves have fallen I think you would be in for a great hunt.

Is there a NR Moose hunt for the Tex Creek or Palasades areas? Ive hunted Elk there for about 5-6 years and see tons of Moose.

We've done well. We go in by the sheep creek access to the resivor and take a boat to the Tex Creek side and hunt the canyons. There's a ton of people hunting ontop as well as outfitters. They start shooting opening day and the elk go strait down the mt to the waters edge and hide out in the timber and Aspen trees. We've taken about 5 bulls in the area. Some years are good and some bad. All in the 300 class or less. It's mostly a meat hunt for me. Always see black bears and the moose seem to be getting better each year. Saw the biggest moose I've ever seen in the area about 2 years ago at the top of sulpher bar.

Ya there is alot of hunters around. But most stay close to the roads. There are a few that do get up into the mts. That's why we go accross the lake. Not to many guys will bring a boat to do it. We kinda are able to keep away from most of them.

1-1 has gone downhill in quality pretty fast the last couple years. I had the tag in 2009 and had a great hunt. Seen over 25 bulls and got a nice one right at the end of the season.
Calling moose is amazing. I actually have a charge on video from my hunt in MT this year. Having a bull at 10 ft is a heck of an adrenaline rush.
There's still some book moose in 1-1, just not very many anymore. It's an amazing hunt, but extremely thick and steep.
