Howdy everybody! I'm thinking about hunting Idaho Moose in the next couple years and was curious on recommendations. I'm too booked up with hunts this fall to even think about going this year.

I'm looking at a 2020 hunt, I'm planning to shoot all the sub-species but would like to start somewhere where draw odds are high and I have at least a chance at a moose.

I'm 20 years old and I'm pretty well a self taught hunter. Don't mind a hard hike or hunt, just looking for some helpful advice! Would like to stick to DIY not guided, thanks!

The draw odd look much, much better than they really are, because they do not account for the 10% non-res. cap.

To think you can pick your year to draw a decent Idaho moose tag is unrealistic. If you are serious about wanting to kill all the sub species of moose you should apply every year in Idaho. It could take 20 or more years to get lucky and draw a good non resident tag. I would apply and IF you get lucky cancel any other hunts that you can repeat on another year. Many of the Idaho hunts are nearly 3 months long so you should be able to find some way to go.

Given it's a $2,100 tag I would avoid the few hunts that have good draw odds unless you are OK with eating the tag. It would only take a couple unfilled tags to pay for a guaranteed hunt in BC so to me that plan of attack doesn't make much sense. Just my opinion....for a $2,100 tag I wanted to be sure I drew a quality tag and even at that it's not an easy hunt. Moose in super thick country and not easy to come by....
