idaho elk hunting

I am going to be going elk hunting in the pan handle any information anyone would like to give me would be greatly appreciated i will be out there on sept 19 for 10 days i have never hunted idaho or elk

I would get all the info you can on wolf populations in the areas you plan to hunt. There were good elk numbers in the pan handle a few years ago but I dont know what has happened since. I was going to scout and hunt it this year but I drew an antelope tag in NV! DO you have a general idea of where you want to hunt in it?

Yes we are going to be hunting in unit 1 over on the montana side of idaho i have an uncle that lives in sandpoint he seems to think we will do better north of sandpoint on the montana idaho line

If you have any troubles finding the numbers of elk that you are looking for check out unit 6 south of where you will be, on the south side of the Saint Joe River, Warning there is a large pack of wolves in the marble creek country or atleast there was last year, but it is still good hunting.

You might want to get ahold of the Bio for that area and get some advise from them. Wolves can be a big issue

we got wolves, but not as bad as this forum wants them to be. Have good raingear, be prepared to not see more than 15 yards and welcome to the very wet jungle of north Idaho. We are not arid,open or dry. We are wet, closed in and wet. The jungles of north Idaho have a lot of elk, which live in very steep wet jungles. No easy desert hunting here.

Thanks for the info i am use to hunting thick stuff just not as steep of country how about the bears are there many up there
