I need to upgrade

Hey all

I'm in the need to upgrade my late season gear. Particularly my layering system. I need rain gear as well as the complete layering system, I would like to have a integrated hood with the outter layer if possible

Help me out. What are you guys using?

Tell me the good and bad of your system

For rain gear I used the Koldo line from Kryptek last year.

My whole clothing system looks kind of like Frankenstein though. I have multiple pieces from just about every company.

I'm jumping on the Kuiu train, from what you describe your needs as sounds like their system would fill all of your needs. Just got my base layers and by the time hunting season starts I will hopefully be geared up with the with all of the outerwear (pants, guide vest & jacket) I still can't decide between the attack and guide pants, will be making a stop at the showroom in April which will hopefully help make my decision easier. The rain gear seems a little spendy to me but I'm new to the top-end gear so I'm no expert.

My favorite piece for cold weather is the First Lite Uncompahgre jacket. It is like a puffy on steroids. It is super warm, and has a much tougher shell than most puffies.

My favorite hunting pants for all weather are Kuiu Attack pants, and I just throw layers on underneath for insulation. First Lite base layers are the best I've tired so far. Still haven't found a replacement for the Patagonia R1 pants for a super-warm but still thin insulating pants layer.

I also like the R1 top, but now First Lite has a similar Grid Fleece top, and I would rather buy from Kenton.

On rain gear, I think most of the major hunting brands have quality pieces, but I run the Kuiu Chugach set myself, and I have had great luck with it.

I really like first lite clothing. The Uncompahgre puffy is awesome. I also love their new wool hoody.

I currently wear a light wool shirt, the heavier hoody, then a Patagonia R1 fleece shirt, a Patagonia micro puff vest if needed, then the Uncompahgre.

I also am a big fan of my RAB Cirrus windshirt. Filson or first lite pants are both great.

In case you haven't noticed, I have a thing for outdoor clothes.....funny because I get most of my everyday clothes at goodwill. Says something about priorities I guess!

I also like the First Lite Uncompahgre jacket and base layers.

It helps a lot to cover your neck. I use a merino balaclava but I have used a light wool scarf, too.

i run first light base layers and the rest is kryptek i have the koldo rain set and love it very durable. i have two pairs of there pants a light weight for early bowhunting and a soft-shell pair and love them both also plus two of the long sleeve shirt a vest and jacket and used them this year i really like it. Plus its not all that expensive but great quality.Kryptek is coming out with a new jacket this year, its a dri down filled layering jacket.

I am hooked on Core4 Element, love every piece they make, but my favorite has got to be the Torrent rain gear. I lived in the rain gear last year and never got wet.

Ok, I have a few minutes where I can answer a bit more in depth.

Let's start with Kuiu:
Kuiu makes good merino base layers, and their outer layers are top notch. They fit me well as a tall guy and I have beat the snot our of my pants and jackets with absolutely not failure. The Super Down jacket my friend and I used in a review during my freelance days performed very well and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a treated down layer. The one knock on them has been meeting their demand in a timely fashion, however, I have gotten everything I ordered quickly.

Sitka:
My experience with Sitka has been limited, but I have used their Kelvin Down Hoody all winter and a couple of their base layers. The Down Hoody is my go to choice in cold weather and I fully expect that I will use it in the late season hunts all of the time. One of my hunting partners swears by his Sitka clothing, and it has served him very well, even in some rough conditions last year.

Kryptek:
I have used the Koldo Rain Gear, and last season it functioned as my soft shell to break the wind. It worked very well and I was pleased with the venting. I haven't used the Koldo pants yet, but I will in the coming bear season I'm sure. Their Alaios pants did very well in the warm weather, but I would have preferred the Dalibor as they are thicker for the cold deer season that we had.

I have used the Kratos Minus and Kratos extensively and it is a great early to mid season insulation piece. I haven't used their merino much, but should be able to here soon.

I will comment more on First Lite asap. I have to finish up E-News, then I should be able to respond.

cabelas mt50. take to a seamstress and put in pitzips. It is made with the extreme wet weather gortex and just works as good as any gortexshell out there. hood is part of the jacket.
