Hunting TV Shows

Fun topic here 😀

I usually don't go for the TV hunting shows because I don't feel like they portray hunting as realistically as it could be. However, I recently stumbled upon "fresh Tracks with Randy Newberg" and this is a show that I think does a wonderful job of detailing what I would call "real" hunting. I especially like that he is mostly on public land, and he doesn't always end the episode with a wall hanger.

I'm curious what shows others are into and why?

I give Randy Two thumbs up! Here are my other favorites, Sheep Shape by the way thanks to the WSF for this show! RMEF show it says it all. Meateater, he does it right! Jim Shockey does it right! EASTMANS of course. Western Hunter does it right also.

I like em all. The last 30 days till the archery opener I cant watch enough of them! Really like the Meateater one due to his good cooking ideas. He usually has a lot of things going on that I never tried or heard of, like the Moose bone marrow that he cooked over an open fire.
Although the one eating the monkey kinda freaked me out a little at first. All good stuff to keep us thinking and learning.

Regardless of how good or how bad the show is, I watch a ton of You Tube to listen to calls/elk sounds all the time. I feel like that really fine tuned my calling when I'm hunting as a single. I also get to review things/mistakes I made to refresh them every year.

I try to watch as many as I can when I can't get in the woods myself. Even ones that are too commercialized (which is most of them), I can learn something from. Wish I could only pay for sportsman and and outdoor channel instead of all those other cable stations! I have to say to sneakypete, great minds think alike!

I watch every show on calling elk that comes on. I only get the opportunity to do it every few years so it really helps me to watch others doing it so I can learn as much as I can. Agree about the Meateater show I find it refreshing and I get a lot of ideas on preparing wild game.

I find myself watching less and less hunting shows. Most of them are filmed on private property. They either mention or show one of their sponsors products every few minutes. I don't watch anything to do with Whitetail hunting back East.
The few I watch regularly are Eastmans, Fresh Tracks, The Meat Eater and sometimes Solo Hunter.

IKIC,

Ditto for me, except I've never heard of or seen Fresh Tracks or Meat Eater and I seldom watch Solo Hunter. Eastman's I like and sometimes Shockey, if he's hunting the Yukon.

I forgot about Ridge Reaper. One of the reasons I sometimes watch it is because this Jason Carter guy and his buddies hunt quite a bit in areas I have been in southern Nevada. We sometimes find dropped antlers from some pretty big bucks while quail and chukar hunting. We have always seen tracks in places you would think are marginal deer habitat at best but he has video of some real monsters. The only reason we don't hunt there is that it is so hard to draw a tag.

Ridge reaper, Eastman's, solo hunter, live 2 hunt with Cody Robbins , fresh tracks and western Hunter. I am a mule deer crazy so live 2 hunt and Ridge reaper have more mule deer hunts so they are my favorite. I absolutely get tired and won't watch turkey hunts, management whitetail hunts and anything high fence. It seems like there are more and more "professional hunters" starting up their own shows theses days and that are just awful.

They don't put guys as ugly as me in front of a camera! And if a camera ever did catch me fishing, it means I didn't fly quite far enough!

Yea it's too bad that just about any clown out there with a video camera can have a hunting show. Some of them are an embarrassment to hunters everywhere.

I've already commented, but I will add one more thing that will cause me not to watch. Although I've always whitetail hunted, I rarely watch a guy sit in a tree, and if the words "Pro Staff" comes out, the channel is immediately changed. They could take they're grandma and put her in a tree with a rifle, and she'll be part of the Pro Staff!

Ridge Reaper, RMEF, Eastmans, and Fresh Tracks are our favorites. Also enjoy the Western Hunter episodes with Nate Simmons in them!
