With 1 week left to go my partner told me he wasn't going. I'm feeling really anxious about the trip now. It's my 1st camping trip longer than 3 days. 1st elk hunt. No cell service but wasn't worried with a partner. He was supposed to supply part of our gear. Shower, camp stove, extra coolers etc. I was getting really excited until now. This sucks!

Yes....what the other people said. Your partner really put you in a bad spot. Hope he has a legitimate excuse, if not, then wow, how inconsiderate can you be..

Hope you have a fun trip without him anyway. Best of luck to you.

That's a really bad deal! I can understand being apprehensive going solo having not done so before. Elk are big animals but you can do it, we will walk you though it if you need advise.

I hunt solo a bunch. Not that big of a deal. If you're worried about kicking the bucket a partner won't do much but watch. Probably won't even stay there to keep the Bears off you. Borrow some gear and get out there. A GPS, an overnight kit in the pack, a space blanket and a coat you'll be fine.

I had my hunting partner for antelope drop out for very legitimate health reasons. At least he gave me a months warning, and loaned me his pickup camper and small freezer. Another friend signed on the day before I left, "Just for the experience". He even shared expenses for the whole trip. I really enjoy the solo hunts, but it is good to share the expenses, and the experience (especially when hauling out a bunch of meat.) It may be too late now, but a PLB such as a SPOT or Delorme IN-Reach would give your family some peace of mind back home. Go for it, and enjoy every minute.

I'm headed to the Gila National forest in New Mexico.
HE drew a Gila tag and is backing out? Lot of cash there lost.........

Go, have fun and enjoy it. Get a InReach, (rent or buy) if your worried about contact and safety.

No: I drew the tag and he wanted to go along. I was going to pay for all the gas all he had to do was split the cost of a hotel for a night or 2 and food. I had someone else wanting to go but he asked me first and seemed excited until the last couple of weeks. Only thing he had to buy was cold weather sleeping bag and the shower. He was going on a 10 day road trip/camping trip for $250. The other guy can't go on such short notice he has a business to run.

I'm not backing out guys, just feeling apprehensive. I'll love it once I'm there. Just have to gather a few more things. It just makes the drive a little harder and lonely at camp each night. The actual hunting part won't bother me being solo.
