Hi everyone,
I moved to Wyoming back in 2019 and nearly exclusively hunt Archery Elk. I've hunted some areas in SE Wyoming but have been deep diving into many general elk units and finding a ton of great potential areas that are within grizzly country. Unfortunately I don't have a hunting buddy and have been considering the option of hunting some of these units solo (specifically general units 81-82-83), which seem to have some wolf activity as well. I like to bivy hunt with camp on my back and just sleep where ever I end up that night. Usually plan for around 10 days before restoking, but all depends.
It looks like the concentrations of grizzly's in these units range from moderate to high and going solo might not be the smartest choice, but the general units with some of best habitat, success rates and lower hunting pressure seem to be in grizzly country! Especially for general units. It's hard to ignore...
I've researched a ton of information on best practices of hunting in grizzly country but haven't found all the answers with solo hunting archery. I would love to hear from some folks about their experience on hunting in grizzly country solo, some lessons learned, or recommendations on adjustments to make compared to going into grizzly country with a buddy or group. How did you change traversing across the landscape or calling, if it did at all? Did you change what KIND of food you at compared to normal bivy type meals? Other than firearm and bear spray did you use any additional methods of protection?
Thanks!
