First off, I am not asking about your hunting spots. :D

I have a friend in Glennallen that has been after me to come up and hunt with him. I was wondering how good the opportunities are for moose and caribou in that area - chances of success, trophy size, etc.?

Thanks!

'06Fan,
The Glennallen area itself has quite a bit of private Native Corporation land (AHTNA). You would have to be cognizant of the boundaries, they don't allow hunting. With your friend being a "local", I would guess that he knows the land ownership fairly well. Most guys use ATV's to access the area and it will be hard to get a place to yourself.
There are some good animals in the area. Both the moose and caribou have been increasing in numbers and quality. You stand a chance at a good bull caribou. Moose will be tougher to find a real "trophy".
I don't hunt that area but might be able to offer some more suggestions if you start making plans. Send me a p.m. sometime.

Thanks for the heads up on the Native lands, I'll quiz my friend about that. I'm just looking for a good chance of success at an adult rep not a B&C animal.

BTW, how's the .338-06 coming along? Gotta' love anything in an '06 case!

I'd been waiting for the dies and bullets to get here. I have them now and loaded up a bunch but haven't had the chance to test them yet. The rifle is a Cooper 52 and I topped it with a Zeiss 3-9. Really anxious to test it out and my son is chomping at the bit to see if we can find him a grizzly to use it on.

There should be plenty of bull moose in the Glennallen country in the 55" range. Hard to find the 65+ bulls, but you might!

Nice! I've admired the .338-06 and the .35 Whelen from afar. I saw your post saying you had a Whelen , I'd really like to hear your thoughts on comparing the two.

Definitely will keep tabs with you as the Glennallen hunt progresses.
