How many Wolves in your State?

Well...I know when our state of Idaho started its much political mess of allowing us to hunt the bastards, the animal lovers were so concerned over the numbers here. They claimed we only had just under 1000 wolves in our state. They claimed there was less than 1500 in the Montana, Idaho, Wyoming area.

So after two seasons, this current one here not yet completed..... We have harvested to date 558 wolves.(legally reported kills of coarse)

I was wondering how many have been reported in your state?
Just curious to see what total number is being eliminated vs the total they tried so hard in court to pull over our eyes as actually existing.

wolftalonID,

I'm not sure of the actual numbers but we have plenty. We'd be happy to send ya a few more if you start to run low!

Heck, had 3 confirmed by me 2 years ago (Illinois), and there aren't supposed to be any. Can't imagine how many there are in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan if they are wandering down here.

Okay, at the risk of losing any creditability, I saw a red wolf in Pontoon, Ar about two weeks ago. Good look and shock. I called a friend who works at G&F. I was told how to call it in at Ft Smith. I didnot. Since then some duck hunting guy are suposed to have SSS two.

Our DNR estimates there are at least 3000 in MN. We just finished up our first wolf hunting/trapping season, and the quota of 400 wolves was met, with the majority killed by trappers. I applied for the late season, but failed to draw.

I thought the last S was "shut up," not "said." lol

I applied for a Wisconsin preference point before they announced what NR licenses would cost -- Wisconsin is usually pretty kind to NRs. In this case, $500 for a wolf. Probably too rich for me.

Hopefully none! I have heard of a sighting very far North of the state but didn't see anything on the news reports.

Hey IKIC, OR 7 almost made it into your state then decided to turn around.

I thought he did? If he didnt though it is because he knew what Nevadans were like... LOOK AT THAT BIG COYOTE!
Speaking of or7 my dad knows a guy that was out coyote in that general area, cut his track and followed it not knowing the story"supposedly" and about 5 dfg vehicles appeared out of nowhere and told him to get lost.

We are still waiting for more in Oregon before we get to start killing. I guess we need them in every corner of the state first?? I believe we are almost there, by the time they say there's enough it will be too late.

That's pretty crazy Dr. I bet he crapped his pants when they showed up. I would have a few questions for those boys if the came up to me.

Kinda sounds like Colorado. We have had at least 2 confirmed, both YNP collared. Both found dead (what all YNP wolves should have happen to them!). I believe its only a matter of time until we will be dealing with them here. Ya think I'll ever buy a tag to shoot one......! If I ever see one, whever I am, it gets nailed, just an overly large Coyote.

Colorado denies having them, apparently so does Nevada. Maybe those DFG guys were chasing the guy out so they could deal with those giant coyotes in private. If the state acknowledges having them, the Feds will require that they protect, study and manage them. Most of those DFG guys are residents of their states too. Who knows, just a thought!
