Wanting to apply for moose and was hoping some one would give me the scoop on how the draw works in Idaho.
I know there are no points involved but do they look at everyone's first choice then go to everyone's second choice? Or do they look at all choices on each application like Nevada does?

Thanks for the info

I've been told by Idaho F&G people that there's no point in putting in a second choice. They only allow you two. I don't know if that is true or not but I've never drawn a second choice there.

You have to buy a N.R. licence about $150.00, in order to apply. Chances are less than 10% depending on the unit. I would get on the F&G web to check your'e drawing odds. You also have to send in the $ 2100.00 tag amount, that you will get back if you don't draw. You can apply for leftover controlled hunts for deer, elk, and antelope in the spring. If you don't draw any of those, you can buy a general over the counter tag for deer, elk, bear, or wolf.

Thanks guys. I'm finally at a point where I can start applying for some dream hunts and because I have an 8 year wait to apply for elk in Nevada I'm looking to other states for elk too. With Idaho over the counter and left over tags this works for me.

Idaho's system allows up to 10% of their LQ tags to go to nonresidents. "Up to" are the key words and sometimes they draw 0% nonresidents.

This is true, and a big misconception with a lot of non-residents who assume they're guaranteed 10% draw numbers.

OP: if your goal is to draw a moose tag, and to keep elk open, you'll want to apply during the control draw coming in June for moose (100% of tags get drawn as I'm sure you know, so no left overs) since you're restricted to applying for either ONE trophy species (goat, moose or sheep) OR elk, deer and prong...you'll want to find a zone to hunt, and buy a general elk tag A/B which are already on sale. Good luck.

don't forget about the super tag too, you can put in for moose that way and still be able to put in for controlled hunts for elk deer or lopes.
