Hoping to hunt elk in WY in 2018!

I currently have 6 points and my dad has 5 for elk in WY and I'm hoping to go in 2018. I have a few questions. If we went bowhunting and were unsuccessful is it possible to go back with a rifle?
With those points, what units would you recommend for bow and rifle? Thanks for any help!

Unless you draw a type 9 tag, archery only, you can hunt the rifle season on your elk tag if not successful during the archery season.
Some good general areas along with limited quota, depends on what type of terrain you want to hunt and which part of the state.

Not all limited quota rifle tags include an archery season as well...Its all going to depend on which unit you decide to go for.

I don't really have a preference with terrain. Area of the state I was thinking was the Big Horn mountains. Is that a good area?

If you never elk hunted before I would get OTC tag in Colorado and learn to hunt elk before burning points. or pick an area in wyoming that you want to hunt elk in and get a cow tag or a deer tag and learn the area a bit before burning points
