Your buddy shoots a small 3 point and is over took with the feeling we all get after great shot and the animal is down, but in all the rush of the events he did'nt even notice the large 5x5 buck that jumped up after the shot, would you tell him about it or enjoy his glory with him and try not to spoil the moment?

If I didnt know them real well I might not saw anything about it but if it was a real good friend they would never hear the end of it! I would get a good few years of giving them a bad time out of something like that:)

Depends how long you have been friends for. But if it was me, I would problem spill the fact after you get home. Let him have the moment.

This happen to me last year. A buddy had a PIW deer tag for Nv. He hunted for months looking for a 200" buck. The last day at last shooting light we where about 500 yards apart looking for a deer, any deer at that point. I spot a 175" buck and call him on the phone. Just as I push the "call" button I hear a shot. He answers.... I got one. He's only a 150" buck but that's all we could find and I didn't want to waste my tag. I almost said what I had found but didn't. He was happy so I was happy for him.

I'd have to tell them and proceed to grilling. Its what friends are for, being there to help out no matter what and ribbing you tell your 6' under.

That would depend completely on the friend. Some I would realy "roast", others I wouldn't. Some of my buds have personalities that welcome it, others not so much.:p

I would totally grill my friends about it. It happened to me this year I shot a huge bodied 3x3 blacktail and after the recoil I saw a really nice 4x4 jump up and crest the hill in the clearcut I was in. It kind of bugged me but I never had a shot at him so I didn't let it get to me... but I still think, what if?

None of my friends that I hunt with would hold back if it was me and neither would I if the role was reversed. But that is just the way we are with each other.

I would get a picture of it. Then while we are cleaning up that good buck, we can celebrate and look forward to coming back together after the big one.

Let the guy have his moment. All the time a guy spends dreaming about what he will take and all the time spent reliving it are half the fun of hunting. Why spoil it? There are plenty of other things to rib him about, I'm sure.
Same here hoshour

i see it as a learning experience for the other hunter, no matter how novice of a hunter he may be we all need reminded sometimes to take the time and look around more. if the bigger buck was close to the shooter and he didn't see it even after the shot then that's to bad for the hunter. a few years ago I hit a spot known for its heavy heads and it was the last day I had to hunt, I hunted hard and found a small 4x4 and whacked em. as soon as I shot him 3 much larger bucks stood up and were gone. I instinctively started throwing another shell in the chamber wishing I hadn't rushed the moment. the hunter should still embrace the moment even more so after learning there was a larger one near by, its more fuel for the fire next tag.
