I don’t go Hippo hunting often... but when I do I use the 6.5 Creedmoor.

Just like with buffalo, many countries have a .375 caliber (or 9.2mm in the case of Zimbabwe) minimum for hunting hippo. Monolithic solids or premium controlled expansion bullets (Swift A-Frame, Barnes TSX, etc) are very good on hippo.
