Are you going to be staying in a tent? There are no motels or much else in Hiawatha, the closest ones will be in Price.

As I mentioned in my other reply, have you contacted the operator yet to see if there are elk in the area yet?

Jim I'm towing my toyhauler out there. I've talked with the operator and he's not given me much information. Sounds like there's a little snow up top and more on the way, that should help maybe. I'm mostly interested in getting my uncle on some elk as I've already got a bull this yr in Idaho. I'd be happy to harvest too, but not a huge priority

There was snow up high over last weekend and then it cleared up. I didn't pay any attention when I drove through the area last Wednesday but there is no snow down low. I know that a lot of the operators will call you when the elk have moved into the area so that you can get your cow, that is why I wondered if you had talked to them yet.

If you want to watch the weather for that area just watch what is happening down in San Diego. If it is raining in southern Cail it will be snowing up on that side of the mountains 3 days later. If the storms come in from the northwest the hills up on top will get snow but very little snow will make it down lower.

I worked in Price for 20 years before I moved to Colorado and watched a lot of the storms do just that.

Thanks for your insight Jim, it's much appreciated! I've been keeping an eye on the weather and hopefully we'll get some info from the operator when we arrive. Leaving Wednesday morning and hunting from Thurs thru the weekend. The operator assured me that we should be able to tow the toyhauler out to Hiawatha with no trouble.

You'll access the CWMU off of the Mohrland Rd which is a good road. I am sure that they told you where you can camp at but if they didn't don't try going too far up it with your trailer, it is steep and narrow as it goes up the canyon. Other than that you can pull off of the road and camp along it when you find a good place. The top of the CWMU burnt a few years ago and I am not sure just what it is like anymore.

Good luck on the hunt.
