Hey Guys,

Just wanted to give a brief intro about myself, and looking forward to getting to know some of you guys.....i didnt even know this forum existed until i started looking into a DIY wyoming antelope hunt. I would google something, and more often than not one of the first things to pop up would be a thread from here, so i had a look at some of the threads and sure seems like a ton of knowledge on here! This year i was finally able to draw my antelope tag at home (its about a 15 year wait), and I had a blast and took a respectable buck by our standards, but sure done want to wait another 15 years to do it again, hence my interest in a DIY hunt in wyoming.

Anyway, Im from Alberta, Canada and love hunting about anything I can..... As far as hunting in the states, I have hunted antelope in Wyoming once before (guided), hunted hogs in California at Tejon ranch with someone I met on a grizzly hunt in BC from California who is now a good friend, and have a free range Auodad hunt booked for Feb 2018 in texas. I love hunting new places, and am hoping to get a few more hunts in in the US over the next few years. As far as at home, i hunt about everything I can, but my favorite place to be is in the mountains chasing sheep, goats and elk. Besides hunting, I also actively trap on my line each winter, and whether hunting, fishing or trapping, always bring my 7 year old son along whenever possible.

Generally speaking, all the hunting I do is self guided, unless Im required to use a guide (the exception being my first wy speed goat trip a few years ago). Besides the goat hunt in wy, the only other guided trip I have done is an unsuccessful grizzly hunt in BC. We dont have a grizzly hunt in AB anymore, so have to hunt them elsewhere and had to use a guide. Saw lots of bears on the trip, but nothing that I would deem a shooter, so ate my tag on that hunt.

Anyway, nice to meet you guys, and just thought Id start out by sharing some pics from some recent hunts done here at home.....our season is just getting really up and running where I live, so all but the antelope pics are from last year, the loper i just shot a week ago.

Starting with my antelope from this year. This guy was taken about 2 miles north of the Montana border.

Here is a goat from last year....

Last years velvet archery muley....

Last years moose....I had been watching this bull for 2 years on some land we own, and finally caught up with him less than 500yds from a cabin i have on 80 acres of the family land.

Con't on next page......

Last years elk....I got really lucky with this guy, I saw him on the field edge and he was headed into the trees with his cows. i was able to bugle him back out to the edge of the field, making the retrieval a heck of alot easier!!

And finally last years archery bear....me and a buddy have ran 2 baits in the same area for years, and I had trail cam pics of this chocolate boar for the last 3 years. Finally, he slipped up and came in during daylight.

Looking forward to getting to know you guys!

Welcome to the forum. Glad your here. You've had some great success in your hunting career.

Tell us about your Mt Goat. I just got back from a goat hunt for a friend, it was one hell of a hunt.

Welcome aboard! Sweet trophies. I love the bear color and the history you had chasing him. I got a giant bear that is totally nocturnal that I hope slips up next year.

Haha, goat hunts are always an adventure!! Not too much to say really, I hunt goats in BC because there are really limited tags in Alberta (not sure why sometimes as I often see more goats than sheep when were in the hills chasing rams), and we have a few decent honey holes we've found over the years. All we do is backpack hunt, and this particular goat was just over 11 miles in from the nearest trail. That goat from last year was the easiest recovery Ive ever had, thats for sure....we came onto a saddle and were planning on dropping off the side into the cliffs to look for billies and it just so happened that the herd was feeding on that nice, grassy slope. Knowing that the goat could roll all he wanted after the shot made it an easy decision for me, so I happily closed my tag on that Billy. Later that day my friend also shot one in more typical goat country, and it took a fall of about 250-300ft. Somehow the horns stayed on though, but the meat was seriously damaged.

So, did you guys get a goat?

Thanks to everyone else!

Swampokie, hope you connect with that bear.....its those nocturnal bruisers that keep a guy going back year after year and hauling in 1000's of lbs of bait, lol.
