I'm thinking of buying a new spotting scope. 800-1000 is my budget. Besides a vortex viper, any other ideas out there. I'm not afraid of vortex at all.i have scopes and a set of Kaibabs that I'm very happy with. Just want some opinions of others I might be overlooking. Thanks.

I wanted to stay with a 20/60/80. Very big country where I hunt. Does the razor stand out that much more then the Viper?

Head and shoulders above! I hunt as big as country as the rest of us and I rarely use anything above 40x due to heat waves! The Razr is the flagship line for a reason, I'd hate to admit it but it's everything my Swaro spotter is and half the price!!! There will be plenty of other guys chime in on this and I would speculate they'd say almost the same as me!!

If anything save a few more months and get the 20-60x80 Razr, I've seen them sale for $1300 on eBay and several other websites!
Good Luck!

Razr HD 16-48x65 Spend the extra $150!!!
I agree. I just got mine and have only used it here at work looking at the countryside around me. I brought in my old spotter(Leupold-WindRiver) and my dad brought his in(Bushnell something or other) and I'm just blown away by how much sharper and clearer my Vortex is. I shopped around for months. Read a lot of reviews. Started reading about it on here and took the plunge. It was a little bit more than I wanted to spend, but the way I look at it is it is a lifelong investment. I'll never stop hunting. Vortex warranty is as good or better than anyone else's from what I've read. Good optics can make or break a hunt. Biggest buck I've killed was because of good optics. I'd have never seen him without them. Save a few extra bucks and get something that you'll be happy with for a very very long time. Just my .02.

You could look at the Leupold Kenai in the 20-60 X 80 is sells for the same price as the Viper and I think the Viper or Kenai will be everything that you need.

Look into the Zeiss Duralyt, this style normally isn't my preference. However, I have been using it for the past few trips out and I love it!

i have the 65 mm vortex razor hd and highly recommend it. If you will be using your spotting scope / tripod setup for back packing, I would not go any larger than a 65 mm objective, due to the extra weight and bulk.

I have a Vortex Viper HD, and it is great other than when you get into the higher power it is very fuzzy, I would spend the extra money and get the Razor HD

Like everyone says spend a little more, I've bought countless scopes between $300-600 and I woulda been way ahead just buying one top notch scope. Yes the cheaper ones might be good "enough" but there not best, spend the extra cash and be satisfied not upset and waiting 3-6 years to buy another one!

FYI,I have a friend who owns Archery Invasion ,a archery shop in chubbuck,Idaho.( sub of Pocatello). He quoted me about 1200 bucks for a new vortex razor hd 20/60/85. Almost 400 cheaper than anyplace I've checked. Check them out in Facebook. Good guys!
