Hi everyone. I'm new to western hunting but last year finally got out to Co for mule deer. I arrived 2 days before the 2nd rifle started in Gmu 37. Located what i thought was a great buck. I was camped at 9,800' with my truck off a trail with a daytime high in the 60's. I was camped in a tent that was smaller than me. That night the wind blew over 50 mph and the temp dropped to 18. We also received 4"'s of snow . That was the wildest ride i ever had in a tent ! I saw nothing on the opener but 1 set of deer tracks and 1 set of fox tracks. On Sunday i decided the deer went downhill and proceeded to descend. After a mile of trekking i came across a set of fresh buck track in the snow ! I tracked him for a half mile slowly a few yards at a time. Finally i caught him bedded in a stand of young pines. He saw me and stood to see what i was. That was too much time for me. A well placed shot and a short tracking job led me to the feet of my 1st mule deer. He was beautiful and magnificent and he was mine !. I've never felt so wild in all my time. I'm hoping to head out west somewhere every year to relive that excitement and chase !
