Guide Jacket Fit?

Hello once again. I believe I'll start with the Guide Jacket as it's getting favorable comments from its users. I originally wanted to "buy American" but that seems impossible as about everything I researched was made in Asia. That being said I have a question on the fit/sizing. How's the cut of the jacket? It's listed as "athletically shaped". With that description, in real use is it a snug, body forming cut or does it allow for a layer or two? Thanks

I would order a size larger than what you normally are, I got the coat in a Medium and I can fit a few other layers underneath, it can be kinda snug depending on what you wear for insulation. I really wish I ordered it in a Large.

I agree, it is very athletic cut...sometimes I wish I would have ordered xl in order to layer a little better. I wear a large in everything.

I wear large for most items, and just got the Guide Jacket for Christmas in XL. I don't think I could wear a large, especially as an outer layer. Go with one size up.

All my Kuiu base layers are L but I wanted to make sure there was plenty of room so I went XXL on the guide jacket. This way in really cold temps (-10 cow elk hunting the other day) I can throw on 2 shirts, Kuiu fleece pullover, and vest underneath the jacket and not get cold or overheat.

I bought my normal size as I normally use this for Sept. bowhunting. I can wear a vest under it comfortably but a full coat would be tough as the sleeves and wrist are really snug. Wish I had gone 1 size larger as well as I think it's even beyond athletic cut....more like "skinny guy" cut.

Mine is snug in the arms. I layer underneath it with about a 125 weight merino and a heavier one. I'd have room for a vest as well but I don't wear those much. Don't expect to be layering up with a hoodie or big flannel shirt or anything like that.

It really depends on your needs.
My regular street clothes I wear a large. All my Kuiu is sized large including my guide jacket. If you want the Guide jacket over lots of layers go up a size. My feeling on the Guide jacket, which I like by the way, is it is almost a heavy technical shirt. If you are going to sit in a blind or a stand you will need lots of layers underneath or possibly over it. If traveling not so much. I can wear comfortably underneath my large guide jacket a merino wool (or two if real cold) base layer and a Peloton 200 Hoodie. I used this combo Turkey hunting last spring sitting against a tree in below freezing weather but I started to get a little chilly after about an hour of minimal movement. During my Archery Elk hunting in late September in the high country, which can get pretty cold in the mornings, I wear the same but also carry a down puffy vest and my rain gear top (Chugach - large) which go over the top of the jacket if I am stopped for a length of time and its real cold.
Hope this helps you with your decision.

All pretty good advice above. Watching people try them on over and over during the tradeshow season, it's the one item that most guys tend to end up ordering a size above what they first pulled off the rack.

Yup, I did order and receive my Guide Jacket, Kenai, and Chugach Rain Jacket. Ordered them all a size bigger than my normal and they fit nicely. They are sized small so ordering a size larger is good advise. P.S. Love the VIAS camo with the open Macro pattern. It's the way to go if you don't want to melt into a blob pass 50+ yards.

I wish they didn't size like they do, because there isn't much that I can get. I did talk to a customer representative a while back and was told that the Alpine pants are the only pant that aren't athletically fit. Thankfully that is what I had ordered. The Kenai jacket is snug on me but its fine and workable.
