I have a Garmin Oregon 600 that is great. I also have a couple of the state landowner chips for it. Lots of the time I need my reading glasses to really get a good view of the info. I am thinking about getting a tablet to transfer data into from the gps so I can see the data from a larger screen. I was just a WalMart looking at them and was surprised to see a Garmin GPS option on a Samsung laptop. I know I would have to download Garmin's Basecamp program onto it and the sale person said I could put the chip right in the laptop. This one was only a little over $200.00.

Does anyone know if it would accept the gps satellite data directly without going on wifi. If it would, sure a lot cheaper than the gps. Also to hookup the gps to the laptop will take a special cord.

I called onXmaps and they told me today that most new tablets, like most phones, have a GPS function. That's why they sell so many subscriptions for the phone.

Just remember that you need to download the map first. The GPS on your tablet will place you on the map even when you are out of cell range. You should also put your tablet in airplane mode when you are hunting.

I agree with you. The small screen on my GPS is tough. I much prefer a tablet or my oversize iPhone 6+.

Garmin basecamp only supports live tracking from three devices. You would need to use onx or one of the other phone apps to use the tablet as a GPS in the field.
