thinking about applying in unit 55 colorado for mule deer second season and possibly getting otc elk tag to,just looking for any info on if its worth it to do both for second season rifle

Doesn't hurt to have a bull tag, but chances are good you'll need to hunt one or the other.

I would focus on just deer if that's your primary goal. In my experience muti-species hunts rarely go as planned.

Saw a decent buck or two in 55 last fall. Nothing monstrous, but I'd shoot 'em.

Thats a good hunt 2nd season for that few points. However.....I'd go 3rd this year.....more rutting activity due to the dates changes this year. Cant hurt to have a elk tag in your pocket, but they will be at different altitudes. Tough to hunt both effectively.

Big difference in buck activity between 2nd and 3rd seasons. Big difference in points required to draw too.
