Gents I live up there next to the Hayman burn. Not sure what tag or species your talking about........but I dont hunt it ( big game) and I live next to it. The burn that is.

The burn was in NW Teller County (511), SW Douglas County ( small part of 501,51) and a real small sliver of the eastern side of Park County ( where 501,50 and 511 all meet)

That being said lots and lots and lots of other places in those GMUs to hunt......I wouldn't waste my time in the Hayman burn due to scorched earth thats still recovering and the lack of topsoil still (grass is coming back though) and the many many ATV trails in there.
Just my 2 sense

OP and Roundball... are you guys talking about for mule deer or elk? The Hayman burn area has been a proven producer for some great mule deer hunting ever since the fire and continues to be. I've taken bucks in there and have been with others that have taken some as well. A lot of local guys hunt it with good results. I don't wanna get too specific on an open forum but I've seen more than one Hayman fire area buck grace the pages of the Huntin Fool. Maybe even in the pages of Eastmans? I can't remember for sure?

I'd agree that most guys should shoot a 160 if they want a buck and not tag soup. There are bigger ones in there for sure but they aren't behind every tree. I don't think it's worth ten points but then again I don't think a lot of hunts are worth the points they cost anymore. There are lots of deer around and lots of smaller bucks. I didn't draw last year but did the year before. I had an opportunity at several average 4X4's and below average bucks but usually pass on those unless the freezers empty and it's the end of the season. I saw two really nice shooters but couldn't get a shot at either one. I know two local people for sure that killed big bucks in there this year. Saw some nice scouting pics from before the season too. I see pics every year of good ones that come out of the area. Hopefully that helps a little...
