Got an antlerless whitetail tag for GMU 105/106. I spent the morning in Jumping Cow SWA, that was a waste of time, not sure why they claim whitetails are there, landowners have seen maybe 3 in 20 years. Tons of coyotes and antelope. Any ideas where to go or who to call in these GMUs. Looks like its pretty much private land. Thanks!

Shawnbo,

Welcome to Eastmans' Forum. Recommend a quick intro in the new members section. Its helps everyone get to know you a little better and dispels the thought that people just hop on to get info vice spend some invested time helping others.

That being said. The bulk of the whitetails are up and down Elbert Road. All that land is leased out to Tri State Outfitters and or the Boy Scouts. One tract of land is owned by a Grandmother that has her land tied up in a conservation thing (cause she like to look at them) My son has knocked on her door for 6 years straight going as far as having a apple pie in his hand to trade for access. Lasiter Ranch on the northern side of 24 used to allow bow hunters until a big family dispute which resulted in court action and no more access. A few up by Byers but they are few and far between. North and west of Limon is bone dry again and just has mule deer running around.

I'd burn the tag and head to the pub. That's my 2 sense and I live here:)

That's usually what you have to do if you don't do your homework before hand and know the lay of the land before you purchase the tag.

It is sad that there are usually a lot of these kind of tags left over after all the draws and then hunters purchase them thinking that they have a chance. Only to find out differently later when they head out.

Now that's some advice right there! Looks like you definitely have the scouting report on that area.

The kid and I have tried to hunt it since he was 10 years old. ( 18 now). Those whitetail tags here in CO are tough unless you have access. Some big animals in NE CO and down SE.
