A buddy and I are planning our first hunt in wyoming in fall of 2015. After scouring all of the articles on here Ive found a ton of useful info including the importance of a GPS with the public/private land chip. Ive never owned a GPS before and have been looking at the Garmin Oregon 600 and 600T. I was hoping someone on here could tell me the difference.

From what I can tell the 600T comes loaded with topo maps. Just wondering if its worth the extra money.

Thanks!

IMHO just the card is sufficient as there are topo lines on the GPS when you start zooming in on an area. Cabelas has some good deals on Garmins right now, but I don't remember if the Oregon is one of them. I just use the Legend HCx with a chip in it for Wyoming and it's more than met my needs, as I'm not one for all the bells and whistles like some guys are. I got it for $153 shipped through Amazon, com

I have the 600 and used it in Montana & Colorado this year with chips for each state, easy to use and I wouldn't spend the extra money on the "t" version especially if you buy a chip for the state you're hunting. My thoughts.

If you are planning on buying the land map chip don't worry about the T version. The chip will have the same level of topo map quality.

I would get the T version. When I got my 450t I only got the T because it was onsale at Cabelas but after having it Im glad I got it because when I hunt areas where public/private land is not an issue and I dont have a chip for it its really nice to have all the topo maps already loaded in it. Keep checking Cabelas for sales on them. I got mine in December 2 years ago for about 1/2 the regular price!

I also got the 450T a couple years ago from Bass Pro. Where I hunt it's 100% public so no need for a special chip. Also when I got mine the T version was $100 cheaper.

Yeah I would skip the T models if you are getting the Onyx chip. I would add that camera is a big improvement on Oregon 600 series from the Oregon 400 series. GPS equipped with the camera have 50 designation i.e. Oregon 650. The camera helps you to document your hunting area better. I take pictures of wallows, rubs, bedding areas, etc.. The main downfall is that each picture will drain about 15%-20% of the battery. I use the rechargeable batteries if I take pictures. IMO the camera is worth it but I would not get the Oregon 450.

The camera is nice but I did see some amazing deals during black friday for the Oregon 600 on camofire.com, cabelas, and rei. I would keep an eye out just in case they have another amazing deal.
