Well, it has been a pretty fun fall for me also so I thought I would share if that is alright. My brother kindof last minute decided to come out for a hunt. He got a leftover tag in a kindof tough to access area and a general tag. He hasn't been able to hunt for quite awhile, but has been able to maintain Wyoming residency while living in Washington State. Active duty has a couple perks I guess. This was probably the most I have ever scouted pre-season, and it was definitely worth the effort. I maybe shouldn't have "managed expectations" so much. I thought deer might take quite a bit of work. We happened on a group that had two pretty nice ones holed up the trees, but there was a forkie about two hundred yards out in the open and then boom, one down lol. The antelope were pretty spooky and we busted quite a few stalks, but then we spotted a group, made a big circle, belly crawled over to the top of the hill, and at 80 yards both tags filled. Pretty decent buck, but he didn't want pictures. Anyway we were pretty happy, and it was a good time to kindof reconnect after a few years. Neither of us are big on phones (or writing, if you can make it through this mess you will understand).
Then this past weekend I got to hunt mid-rut it seemed like. I hadn't ever tried rattling them in, but I went with my boss again and rattled in quite a few. That was super fun. It is hard for me to pass up a legal deer at 80 yards holding still, so I also got a forkie. The next day so did my boss. Anyway, not huge deer, but our freezer was a little empty before this weekend. Super fun, thought I would share.
