so im planning a fly in trip to the frank church wilderness this year and it will be my first time in that area. from my understanding of the 2016 regs it looks like it opened september 15th for rifle so that will be when i want to go if it is the same this year. i plan on hunting the high basins away from the air strip im just curious if there are many bucks in those areas at that time of year or if i should make other plans. thanks in advance

I'm interested in doing this too. I've heard there's a problem with wolves in the frank church. I would like to be able to spend some time scouting before but that's limited since it'd be a fly in. It would be a lot of fun though.

I took a nice buck in September back in 2008 there was a lot of wolf sign but never actually seen any wolves. What surprised me was how many white tails we seen in there. I am not sure if the wolf situation is better now that they shooting some or not. Good luck!

I haven't hunted the wilderness because I bowhunt but I live in McCall and can tell you what traffic is like. This year I really noticed how many vehicles were parked at the Cascade and McCall airports starting about September 15th. In early November you can't find a parking spot. I would highly recommend visiting with McCall Aviation or Arnolds to see how many folks they shuttle in there during hunting season and that is just the folks that don't have a plane or have a friend that does. Those numbers might blow your mind considering they really only go to 4 strips. I've flown over a couple of the strips and don't expect this to be a remote wilderness hunt unless you fly in and then plan to hike 10+ miles away from the strip. As for the deer there are some but I have seen few the trophy size I consider. Good luck.
