Was wondering if anyone knew the difference in phase 1 and phase 2 draws for wma permits. What do you have to purchase prior to applying?

Phase 1 is the preference point draw where the guys with the most points will draw the hunt for any given hunt. Phase 2 is the draw for any hints that were left over after phase 1 is over. A permit will only make it to Phase 2 if less people applied for the permit on Phase 1 then there were tags available, so barely any hunts will make it to phase 2.

Phase 3 is the weekly random draw for any returned permits.

In order to apply in any phase you will need to have a Management Area Stamp but don't actually need the hunting license.

Thanks for clearing it up. I'm headed to Putnam county to hunt in march. Was curious about wma that borders the area I'm hunting but too late to apply this year anyhow.

Do any of you have any suggestions for a non quota wma eastern turkey hunt? ive never hunted public land turkeys in fla and hear it can be quite the challenge.

It is quite the challenge from my experience. Then again, I have always gone on a weekend and only had 2 half days to hunt. Goes without saying but you will need to get away from others and have a few days IMO. The areas I have hunted are typically loaded with people and I think they have heard every call by then. If you locate 1 or 2 early and don't have the locals all over you it very well could go your way.
