First mule deer!

My first mule deer! And its from California! 28" 4x5. Took my brother with me as a pack mule. Good thing because this guy was a toad! I found him the day before the opener and he wasn't 100 yards from where he was on the opener! 430 yards 257wby. Passed on a couple other dandies as well. One of the pics is from the day before caught him snoozing in his bed. It's too bad I really wanted to explore my area more but I couldn't pass on him.

I'm hunting muleys in Utah in less than a month, I guess I have high expectations. Also have a controlled cow elk permit for Utah as well as a blacktail tag to fill plus my girlfriend has a tag to fill too! No need to buy any meat this year. Season has started off great!

If this is your first mule deer (and you are a trophy hunter) then I would say that you've created a problem for yourself--you could hunt a l-o-n-g time without a chance at another buck as nice as this one!!
