Hello all.

I'll try to make this short and sweet. A group of us from Ohio are looking to do an elk hunt in WY this upcoming season in '16. We have a few preference points built up and are ready to take the plunge. There is ALOT to this. I have been looking into good elk areas for public hunting and would like to get some of your input on this. We don't want to go through a guide, we have gone out Muley hunting quite a bit so I guess we've become good at that. Anyways, we have UTV's and would like to utilize those as well, if possible.

Areas we are considering now are 1,116,34,35,36 and I prefer the most, 45. As I said, we are coming from Ohio so another hour or two to go from East WY to Central isn't a big deal. Any input at all is appreciated, and seriously, anything. Thanks in advance all for taking the time!

Thank you!

I am using a .300 Win Mag, others are using similar weapons. We have 8 preference points saved up each but we might have to spread them around to a few extra guys because of scheduling issues.

I would stay away from 34 due to private land issues, unless you talk with land owners. And 36 is a general area so do not waste your points there. I don't know much about the Black Hills so I can't help you with Area 1 or 116.
