I shot my first elk Monday.

i scouted them prior to the hunt so i knew where they were bedding. i moved in below the herd in the morning. i had to pass on several bulls and a couple 6x6's since i saved my bull tag for 3rd season. in the end i had a 5x6 bull come to the party late and spook behind me as i was closing in. He ran a huge circle around the herd and then came back through the middle of the elk. 1/2 half the heard stampeded out of the bedding on the trail i was sneaking in on which they couldn't see me till they almost hit me. like a rock in the river, the heard broke around me. i pulled up to shoot the first cow but my scope was dialed into 9 power so i couldn't see what i was shooting. i scrambled to dial it down while cows are rushing out of the brush, finally fixed my error and i shot my cow at 2 steps.

no, i won't forget that one!
