Years ago I purchased a complete kit from Cabela's that even included a suture kit. Over the years things have been used and replaced as I have gone along. The big problem is that replacement items don't fit as well into the kit as the original ones do. This kit usually just stays in my truck.
For day trips I'll usually have that paper towel and electrical tape along with a few bandages. It is surprising at how much blood flow you can stop with that paper towel and electrical tape.

I was with a guy who hit his hand with a kickback from a chainsaw and yeah, tee-shirt and electrical tape, and an hour and half to hospital and full recovery. I have recently added the tecnu stuff for poison ivy and what not. I used to just try calamine lotion, but knock on wood I don't need to use the tecnu, but I am going to try it. I have a really bad reaction to that stuff.
