Do any of you feel a certain pose of decoy is more productive than another? I am looking at the Montana decoy line, and was wondering if any of you have tried multiple poses enough to have a preference. Thanks

I've used both and I think the full cow works better, but like sneaky said I think both work best when hidden with some timber. If you put a flat decoy in the middle of a field it won't work. I know this because I have done it and had a calf walk up to it and totally freak when it got sideways to the elk decoy and it essentially disappeared. Blew the whole herd out. Pretty funny though.

As Sneaky Pete said I use the ass only or hang it on a tree so all they see is a busy cow feeding. Just enough for them to see the color. Its very very effective at the right times of the rut especially at the beginning and pre rut when "searching" is still going on by the bulls. Mistakes by me has been not realizing how far away some animals actually see it and circle downwind and get to me 45 min later while I was getting up to move. Missed two opportunities like that. Stay in a spot a little longer and call over your shoulder opposite the direction you think they are coming or downwind.

Ive also bumped a herd that I stumbled upon bedded. Backed out on my hands and knees and at the same time pulled out the decoy and put it in front of me while backing out. A spike took interest and followed me for 80 yards bugled then barked. Herd bull got out of his bed to come take a look at the racket. We have had some very entertaining days with the Montana decoys. I'm taking in my son and wife this year ( they have the tags) and will have two in my pack.
