Fake wallow/scrapes

I know this concept is popular with deer hunters back east but has anyone tried this with elk?

I was thinking about buying some elk urine/scent and rubbing it on a tree or making a small wallow and using the product around it. I live pretty close to my elk area and it would be feasible to visit it a few times pre-season. Figured it would be a good place to spend the afternoons.

It seems like a good idea to me. I have read a lot of articles saying to set up blinds by wallows and stuff, so why not try and see if a big dude will get jealous of a little guys wallow in his area. I am not sure if that was the strategy you were looking at, but I would be curious to see if it works.
