I am looking into the possibility of a backcountry hunt withing the next few years (hopefully, after wedding, kids, etc. slow down!) and was wondering any thoughts on Eureka tents/bags/packs. I have an opportunity to get their products for a good price and was thinking of stocking up. Any suggestions appreciated.

I have used a tetragon just normal camping for many years. Has served me well. Never had a leak, even in torrential downpours.

I've been using the Midori 2 person tent for myself for the last two seasons and have been satisfied with it. Been through a couple cloudburst thunderstorms with it and stayed completely dry. I honestly bought it because it had the best price vs. weight ratio of the tents in my budget. Yes, there are lighter ones out there but they also come with a heavier price tag.

I used a Eureka Solstice tent for years. It was cheep and weight wasn't too bad. It is a tight fit and no vestibule but kept me dry, warm and has held up great. I just brought a light weight tarp to put my gear under.

I will go ahead and agree with everybody. I have a Eureka tent that I used for quite a while now. No complaints at all. Easy to set up, does what I need, could be lighter like already said, but was pretty reasonably priced and I have gotten some good use out of it.

Ive used Eureka tents for years. I have two, one is a three season two man tent. The Backcountry, great tent, had it in snow, downpours ,etc. The second is more of a family tent, 5 man. Still very good. I wouldnt give my backcountry up for a ligher tent ever, it keeps me warm even in November in the MTNs...

OK.... two opinions here (since you asked).

First: Eureka items are affordable although not super high-tech. And as said earlier are likely a bit heavier than some of the overpriced stuff. You can stretch your budget on some pretty functional items with that brand.

Second: if you are yet to be married or have kids................ treat yourself to some overpriced high end gear "while you can"

Hahaha,

Couldn't agree more OJ! I had a "Eureka!" moment for a slogan teeshirt when I read your quote. ;)

As far as Eureka gear goes, I am with Scott and the others: solid construction, good value, just a bit heavy.

I agree with the above also....great price, good quality, not the lightest. Ive been using a Pinnacle Pass 2 for several years and have never been let down in several wind and rain storms.

Thanks for the input guys. As far as treating myself goes, I got married last August and having a kid in about 2 weeks so needless to say those days are on hold for awhile. I've been looking through the stuff and the Midori tent looks like it will fit my needs. Any thoughts on bags?

I was in the same situation as you a couple years ago, going on my first pack trip this year in region h Wyoming. I bought a used eureka spitfire 1 off ebay for about 85.00 a bag off amazon. You can get alot of info from this site that's for sure. I also looked up alot of stuff on Amazon and they have reviews on everything which helps, you would be surprised on what they all have on there. It sure would be nice to go high tech gear, but that will cost a pretty penny, you can always upgrade as you go. I think the spitfire is about 3 lbs which is not to bad. What part of MN are you from?

You can't go wrong with Eureka! I have had one of their tents for over ten years. I have take it backpacking and on canoe trips in some crazy weather. Very strong has never leaked on me!
