I have 16 points for Utah Elk. I am looking at Manti, La Sal and Fish lake Muzzleloader hunt. I know there are better units but I really am tired of chasing points at age 56. Any help would be appreciated.
It looks like they are all managed for 5.5-6 year old bull harvest, a little lower than the 7.5-8 of most of the limited entry hunts. I'm sure there are still good bulls. I say study the terrain, access, etc and pick the hunt that best suits you.
They are all good units but it is going to come down to the question on which unit can you get out and scout? Not just one or two weekends but four or more.
The Manti still has some good bulls on it but has been going downhill. The LaSal's have good elk but a lot of private. I haven't heard too much about the Fish Lake herd lately on just how it is doing. But good bulls are taken off of it each year by those that do a good job of scouting.
Thanks for those links Alabama. I have read most of the Draw and Pref points info on the Utah site but not these. Having 16 points I will be chasing the upper end early rifle for years. So I figure to do my homework and try to draw these next level tags and then just hunt hard.
