Hey all. Posted this in Utah MRS section but haven't gotten many views..I "won" a cow hunt on a CWMU southwest of Price. Anyone have any experience elk hunting this area? Any general info would be greatly appreciated!

There will be elk in the area once the snows drive them down.

Have you been in contact with the operator yet?

What is the cwmu name? Just call the operator. They will tell u where they are so u will get in and get out of the property. They only have those cow tags to please the public and get their bull tags and charge you 5-15 grand for a bull. I hunt them for cows frequently because they are almost canned hunts.

He had a tag for the Hiawatha CWMU and was headed out there last Wednesday from what I understand. I haven't heard any reports on how he did yet.

Back from hunt. Operator called me as we were pulling in to Salt Lake City (from Northern CA) and asks us to come back later..no elk on the property. Yay. We informed him we are 600 miles in to a 720 mile trip and continued on to Hiawatha. He didn't lie to me as there were not only no elk but not even a track in the snow. We talked with some nice gentlemen from the area who assured us there ARE elk up top, but we went up top and couldn't turn up any sign to speak of. We saw a ton of deer and a couple really nice bucks but no elk. May try and go back later. We got extremely conflicting info on when and where the elk might be depending on weather conditions..I'm pretty up to speed on elk and deer habits according to weather, but couldn't get a straight answer to some of my questions. To Be Continued...

Calbuck, has the operator called you lately?

They have been hammered with snow this last week and the elk should be down onto the lower property.

Hey Jim, I chatted with him a day or two ago and he said the elk are there. I'm trying to work another trip in between my power plant outages at work..hopefully I can get it done!
