Elk GMU 40 Wyoming

Drew a type 9 archery tag. Was just wondering if anyone had hunted this area before or was familiar with it. I was planning on hunting September 13-21. I was looking for an area that ATV's CAN NOT easily access. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Good luck to all of you this fall!

I was there last year with a cow tag around October 15 hunted around bald MT. We could get down USFS ROAD 122 goes around the south side with the pick up. Atvs couldn't get much more south then we did. We seen some elk but didn't know how to get to them tell the last day. It was my first time in that unit and first time elk hunting we stayed in graybull . if I ever make it back there to hunt I would check out bald MT camp ground or just camping out of the pick up witch I seen a lot of people doing . Driving from graybull took a long time made for really early mornings and late nights not much rest. Good luck

Thank you for your response. We are going to stay up on top by Burgess Junction. Thought it might be easier to access the area from on top rather than coming up through the canyon every day. Do you have any hunts planned for this fall?

Yep got 2 antelope doe tag in WY 114 again and a WY deer tag in region X. First time I will be deer hunting out of state . Hope to draw a buck tag here in ND but not getting my hopes up they cut tags back again but if I don't get a rifle tag more time for bow hunting if needed.

i am headed to the unit also. ill send you a pm. never been there but we will be there from the 2-26th. we have a wall tent for a base camp and backpacks for staying out. trying to have all of our options open.
