Elk call strategies

All, what is your call strategy for elk during the middle of September in a mid-pressure type area of Colorado?

I usually just throw out one bugle and wait to see what response I get . if none I will wait awhile and do a cow call. if nothing I move on and try again in half hour or so.

if I do get a response , I generally just wing it and go with what the elk are doing
