Bugle tubes are tough call for me. Depending on where I hunt I have a couple different methods.
Populated areas (combat calling): When I'm in a place where I know there have been, or are, other people calling the bulls I always pack a couple different bugles. I keep a Primos Pack Bugle and my Rockie Jakeobson Monarch bugle handy. The Primos call is nice and packable and easy to use in a hurry, the Rockie Jakeobson call is much less common around here, and makes a sound different enough that educated bulls don't know it. I've never seen another Monarch bugle on another hunter in the bush, and I've never had a bull ignore it. Even in high pressure areas
Backcountry (ever ounce counts): Here I go with the tube from my Primos Pack bugle. Nice and compressible and easy to bend to change sounds. I take off the blue reed head on the call and use my diaphragm calls to bugle. This keeps the weight down, and the variability of sounds I can make up.
I carry a number of different diaphragms from a few different companies. Rockie Jakeobson, Primos, Bush-in-Bush, and others. I like the single and double reed calls. I have some triple reed calls but I've never had good luck with them. The Rockie Jakeobson single reed call, the Primos mini double reed are my go to calls right now.
