Hi, looking for a good outfitter in Colorado to do a drop game I would be coming from Michigan for a five day hunt. I have looked at a few outfitters already but just looking to get some opinions on different places.

What are you expecting out of a drop camp? Most of the units that are open to over the counter tags and not so large that you need to do a drop camp back away from the roads and if you are willing to hike you can get just as far back in as a outfitter would take you. Actually a lot of outfitters will hunt right off of forest service roads that you can drive your vehicle to if you have a truck.
Also just because you are a little ways away from others doesn't mean that you are going to be getting into anymore elk than the others will.

We offer horseback drop camps into white River national and Maroon bells wilderness. Both being roadless areas. Sure you can hike to all of our camps, but the thing is ur hiking in then have to rest. Ridin a horse in you're ready to hunt right then if you want. Plus ur that much time ahead of other hunters that start at trail heads or hike halfway in to camp. They still have to get up earlier than you to get to where you camp. Some people like being in further and away from people.

I used to pack into antones cabin, bet you know where hat is jimp hardly ever see anyone else back in there on foot... Cause it's hard to get to and no one wants to pack animals outa there on their back.

I've hiked all over that area and you are right, no one in their right mind would want to pack a animal out of there on their backs. Also the area just to the north west of there before you get to Lost Lake is prime elk country. But again it wouldn't be any fun getting a elk out of that area either.

But in my younger days I did stupid things like shooting animals in those kind of areas.

What unit would be good? Not looking to shoot any records. Would just love to have an opportunity at an average elk!!
The Colorado MRS will be out in a couple months and it will tell you a lot and organize a lot of information for you. If you are a digital subscriber, you can pull up last year's Colorado MRS. You can also do research yourself on the Colorado CPW statistics page or call a Colorado CPWS hunt planner at 303-291-7576.
