I was just checking the published drawing odds listed for antelope (doe/fawn) on the Wyoming G & F website. I was really shocked at the number of tags listed as sold for the unit I want to hunt.

here are the numbers: year-2010-200 tags;2011-287 tags; 2012-219 tags; 2013-5t tags; 2105-5 tags; 2016-5 tags & 2017 - 5 tags.

Are the numbers for 2013 thru 2017 accurate? I last hunted in 2012 and as the numbers for the unit show, tags were pretty easy to draw. I have a hard time believing the 2013 thru 2017 numbers as Wyoming has always issued tons of type 6 & 7 tags.

Bad winter in 2010-2011 and drought in 2012-2013 affected some area dramatically. Low fawn production also affected numbers following the drought. Tags were cut in those areas.

We saw something similar in a unit we really like...175 tags, 50 tags, 7 tags. As frustrating as it is at times, I like knowing the state is paying attention.

Winter counts will start when conditions are best for them. They try to get a handle on numbers before apps are due. With the NR deadline pushed to May the G&F will have a good understanding of how the herds are doing by then. They adjust tags every year when animal populations fluctuate.
Bit of a late summer drought this year so tags may be less in some areas , or they may increase to help the wintering grounds sustain the populations next year.
Keep in touch with the biologist in the areas you like to hunt.

You will know tag numbers long before the app/change deadline. Get applied and edit it when the numbers are known.
