I am building up points and do not have a lot, will have 5 elk points after this year. First and foremost, are there any units that are realistic for a non-resident to draw with 5 points that have increased chances at better bulls than the typical OTC Colorado hunting unit, or am I better off to continue chasing points higher. I am looking for a unit that not necessarily has the monster bull potential of the NW corner of the state but has an increased number of mature bulls and a decent population of elk, while also being able to draw it every few years. I want to become familiar with a unit over time, and a moderate increase in mature less pressured animals in that unit would be a plus. Thank you for any advice.

There really is alot of areas what i would suggest is find the type of country and terrain that suits you best. Watch for areas that dont have very much public ground. There are multiple areas that a non resident can draw everyother year in LQ areas like 48,50,500,57,481,56,561,551,29 Now with that being said i would not burn your points for those tags i would look into 49,66,67 These areas take 3-5 pp to draw. Also what you can do is find a over the counter area and hunt it every year and really learn the area and hunt a LQ area every few years. Just food for thought if you have any questions feel free to pm me also this is the colorado parks and wildlife statistics page that will help with narrowing down that one area you are looking for. http://cpw.state.co.us/thingstodo/Pages/Statistics.aspx
