I am looking at purchasing a new rifle for the mountains. Buying a featherweight rifle is I believe important to me. I have read a little on the Ruger Scout and was wondering if anyone owns one and can attest to that rifles accuracy. I know that with a shorter barrel you will loose some bullet velocity but I heard that you can make up for that using primo ammo. I would Also like to know you guy's thought on the quality of the componants (i.e. the trigger mechanism the barrel ect. ect.) Any thoughts

I've read good reviews, I don't own one. They aren't featherweight though. I'd go a different route for a mountain rifle personally, I like a flatter shooting cartridge for longer shots. I'd lean toward a 6.5lb rifle in 270, 280, or one of the WSM calibers. This will make it easy to stay under 8.5lbs with sling, ammo, and scope.

Nothing against the Ruger scout or 308, I think they are a quality gun. Thats just not what I'd personally pick for a mountain rifle.

you are going to run into optics issues. There are not a lot of choices for the scout type scope. You might check out pistol scopes to get the proper eye relief.
