We're working out realistic plans for DIY options this fall on a leftover cow tag. We hunt with rifles, are fit/not afraid to walk (but we lack horses or ATVs), and will have 6 days available to hunt.

Unit 7 has usually had a boatload of cow tags (and hunters from what I understand 😃) along with some interesting HMA programs for cow elk. Also looked at unit 125, but there is only one large HMA with some public touching it. The warden was helpful, said they would be providing info on elk locations to assist cow elk hunters, but private land access could be an issue-no suprise there.

We're looking for a meat hunt with reasonable odds for success. Since this will probably be later in Nov/Dec, we would not be camping but staying in a cabin motel. PM if u prefer, and thanks to all the great folks on this forum. 😉

Thanks 88, we'll check 61s stats out. I guess I should say we could go earlier in the season too, we just figured the elk would be more concentrated if we went later.
