Hey everyone. First post.

A friend and I are planning a DIY Wyoming antelope hunt this year and like many others, I am requesting any good to know information that you may be willing to share.

We are planning to to apply with a hard to get area first since we have 0 PP and then an area with HMAs as a second. Tentatively looking at Area 44 and Spiegelberg Ranch HMA as a second choice option.

We plan to hunt the latter part of the season.

Does anyone have any experience with that area?

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I dont know anything about that area. best advise I can give for WY in general is to get a blm map and a gps with a huntinggpsmaps chip so you always know where you are at and where you are allowed to hunt. Good luck!

Thanks.

I was planning on getting the chip for my GPS with the maps and boundaries on it. There is a lot of information out there and we have been researching it quite a bit.

Appreciate the info on the maps.

First time I used the chip was last season and after using it I dont know how I got along without it for so long! I dont thing it would would show HMA's though but it will show who ownes the land. Some times it is better to get the map from mytopo.com if its one of those units thats split between 2 or more different blm maps

+1 on the Mytopo.....they are more expensive, but one area I have been looking into splits on 2 different BLM mpas and that makes it difficult to look at. Mytopo eliminates that, but cost about 10 times more haha

Dont have any experience with 44 but can say GPS maps are priceless. One of those and some guts, you can hunt pretty much any of the units with a little accessible public and get your antelope.

Don't have any info on area 44 but I've used the HuntingGPS map on a garmin the last two years and it makes the hunt much more enjoyable knowing exactly where you are. You can find, and stay on public land without being concerned about accidently crossing onto private. I hunted 63-2 and 75 and there are many areas where public/private land isn't marked with fences.....

We are looking at Spiegelberg Ranch HMA specifically....anyone know of it or heard anything on it?

Planning on calling the local G&F office for info as well.

Best of luck! look at lots of maps. the mytopo page was invalueable to me im my search this year. lots of good guys on here to help!
I have received a ton of information from different folks and appreciate every one.

Have ordered the Mytopo maps, BLM maps, downloaded the WIA maps, and have ordered the GPS chip.

Been studying all of the data, spoke to several biologists and game wardens and have developed a plan.

The research has been both challenging and fun.

Thanks again to all of those who have provided me with information. Really appreciate it.

Never hunted that area, but please give us a update of your hunt when you are finished. Good luck!

P.S. you will need lots of gas when you get out there, everything is 500 miles away in WY...the reason I love it out there!
