DIY Hunting

Ok, so I read Eastman's cover to cover to try and figure out what State to try to put together a DIY hunt for Muleys and it seems like I am leading towards either Colorado or Wyoming. Suggestions? Also, about 10 years a go I found a book from two brothers (I think) that showed all the public hunting spots in Colorado, where to park, where to camp, and good spots, etc. Anyone still have a copy? Mine was destroyed by a basement flood several years ago... :-( Anyone remember it? Where i can re-order it????

I don't think you can go wrong with either state. I have hunted WY and I am collecting points in CO. I would say hunt whichever state you can draw a tag in. As far as the book. I have no idea but I think I want it too, so let me know what you find out.

You are definitely on the right track with Wyoming and Colorado in my opinion. Those are my top choices and I have actually been exploring a little bit in Idaho lately. If you want to bowhunt for big bucks you might consider adding Utah and Nevada into the mix, below Colorado and Wyoming of course.

Question? for Guy or anyone who knows about Mule Deer Archery in WY:

I read your MRS from EHJ 123 and you mention an "allocated archery season" in the mule deer section. I've searched through the WY hunting regulations and I can't find anything regarding an archery season except for a few National Park units and what not. Do archery hunters get a jumpstart when hunting with a Region Tag? Like in MT, archery hunters are allowed to start around the 1st of Sept before the rifle kicks off in Oct. Just wondering if such a season exists or if the tentative openers are the earliest hunting starts. Thanks.

Idaho has several good units that will produce good bucks. They can be difficult to draw at times but if you do your homework you can draw in a unit that is easyier to draw and still kill a good buck. I have been putting in for unit 14 for 4 years now and yet havnt drawn it.

It's the same in wyoming .You can start hunting about two weeks earlier with archery with the same tag.

If you are going to hunt archery Colorado would be best in my opinion. In Colorado you can draw a archery tag in a good unit with no points. In Wyoming you have to draw a tag for the area want then buy a separate tag for archery, so you are in the same drawing with all the rifle hunter which make your odds much lower. It looks like you need atleast four points to hunt the best areas in Wyoming

Are you looking for into archery in Idaho...I would be interested in what you learn...I have heard that wolves have done some damage and hunting can be sketchy. Or am I misguided on this info?
