since this winter has been a no show. which for me sucks big time. We decided not to do a winter trip(which sucks, I love winter more than hunting) but take the allotted time off and go rafting. I saw on recreation.gov a permit for the desolation canyon in eastern Utah. We will be putting in on april 13, and floating for a week. 84 miles is the trip length.

anyone done this trip before? any good camps or hikes to check out. Brand new area for me.

and yes, some rivers need a permit to float, just like draw hunting tags.

Have not done that particular trip, no help there but have spent a good amount of time in the region. What a great opportunity. Good luck and be safe...will be looking forward to the pics!

I would be surprised if there isn't some AMAZING camping and trails to check out, as well as some unique geological and anthropological resources too! That entire region is just...awesome.

I have done it never as early as you want to and have always wondered how hunting big bucks out of a raft down there would be. That is if there was enough water in the fall. I would check the flows as the sandbars if it is too low can be horrendous. Not many rapids and wind can be a issue if you need to pound out the miles.

Some cool hikes and country as well as other historical sites and several sites with great pictographs. Watch leaving anything of value at the put in..

If you are looking for info check out mountainbuzz.com lots of rafters on that site

Here are a couple of threads about Deso
