Hey everyone. Glad Eastmans put this site together.

Since we didnt draw our Wyo elk tag, we are looking at putting in for a mule deer tag, since we have the vacation planned already. We are looking at putting in for an impossible draw as our first choice and keep building points, and put in for a guaranteed tag as a second choice-either region D, M or F.

Anyone have any info on these regions? Mainly looking for access, camping areas, and deer numbers. We are not expecting too much in terms of trophy potential, as these areas can be draw as a second choice or picked up as a leftover.

Thanks for your assistance. Would be glad to return the favor if I can.

I would choose Region D, Region F and Region M in that order if it were me. D and F have the most public access and public land to hunt on. A guy can expect to kill a decent four point in both of those areas if you hunt hard. By nice I mean a buck in the 22-26 inch class. Those regions are not really known for huge bucks. Good luck.

we have hunted region d for the last 4 years and have done pretty darn good as mentioned there is some pretty nice bucks on blm and forest but it wouldnt
do you any harm to check with some of the property owners around were you plan to hunt. all we did was contact the game and fish department they in turn put us in contact with the area wardens who than told us landowners to contact it was a win win situation as the first year we hunted we helped the local ranch owner retrieve his animal know we have a place to hunt and its turned out real well. just take the time and reseach your area it would surprize you what kind of bucks turn up

What about Region Y? My buddy and I will be going out there for the first time this fall and put Y as our second choice but I was thinking about changing that. Our strategy is to do the exact same thing, tough unit first, then a general region for our second choice to build points. Guy, where would you rate Region Y at? I know it is only a yellow chip unit....maybe that answers the question.

Region Y has plenty of deer but you will search high and low to find a decent buck over 170. I've only seen one buck in there that I though was in the 190 class in over 20 years of hunting there on and off, mostly for elk. If you want to hunt a 160-175 buck than Region Y is a very good place to start. It's a great "get your feet wet" kind of Wyoming mule deer hunt. I hope this helps. Good luck.
