Has anybody had good luck this year in D-8? I have seen a few spikes and does, but only on private property. Any ideas on where I could go? I am also not afraid of hiking in. And when do the deer start moving down?

Haven't seen a (live) deer yet this year, lots of fresh tracks and poop.
The store in Kernville has a bunch of deer from around Sherman Peak. There are some meadows around there, not sure what their movement patterns are like (up during the day and down at night or vice versa), but I know they're in there. Lots of climbing there.
According to a guy I talked to, it's also really dry back there this year, springs are dried up, etc, so if you go in, take plenty of water.
Oh, and if you go that way, there was a lone cow on the side of Sherman Peak on Sunday.
There are also plenty of deer in the area south of Johnsondale, problem there is that you either have to find a spot where you know they'll show up, get there before they do, wait for them and hope the wind doesn't shift the wrong way or hope one jumps in front of you on the road. Too dense to scope effectively and a ballerina couldn't get through the woods without sounding like a herd of elephants.

Thanks guys. I went up to the Portuguese pass area last weekend. Lots of sign, but it was in the 30's with snow on the ground. On the way down we saw some does and one
spike on private property.
